The hardest part of starting a meditation practice is sticking with it, especially when the benefits aren’t immediately felt.
For this check-in flow, we saw an opportunity to educate users in their first week about what they can expect from meditation, asking them to focus on short-term, daily changes rather than lofty long-term goals of eliminating stress and anxiety. We check in with them about the goal they set in an earlier prompt, and let them choose a part of their day to place more awareness on.
The copy I wrote for this feature creates a friendly 2-way dialogue using the therapeutic technique of motivational interviewing, guiding users away from uncertainty and toward setting their own goals.
This flow boosted our key metric of week-2 engagement by 3.2% on iOS, and 4.6% on Android.
